Hotel Review - Horison Hotel, Hanoi Vietnam

September 2007

The Horison Hotel is a bit away from the center of things around Hanoi's old town area, but it isn't an entirely bad location. The hotel is just a short walk from the Temple of Literature and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.

While the Horison has all the requisite amenities to justify its five-star rating, it seems that they only did the minimum necessary to get that fifth star. Not that there's anything wrong with the hotel. My stay there was perfectly pleasant, but only that. There's really nothing special here.

My room, while comfortable enough, was as unimpressive as the rest of the hotel. While free wireless Internet access is very common all around Vietnam, regular rooms have no Internet abilities at all. Only the executive club floor rooms have any access. A further drawback to the rooms was the air conditioning. The system shuts off completely when you leave the room, so in the warm days of September, the room quickly became warm and took a very long time to cool off when I returned in the evening.

Hotel facilities include two restaurants and a lobby lounge.

Rooms feature air conditioning, hot and cold water, mini-bars, color televisions, hair dryer and locking in-room safe.

Pluses: Good price for a five star hotel.

Minuses: No in-room Internet connectivity (except Club Rooms). Somewhat out of the way location.

Rooms at the Horison Hotel may be booked through the link below.

Hanoi Horison Hotel
This first class Hanoi accommodation is located in the heart of all Hanoi has to offer. The Hanoi Horison Hotel is located near the embassies and government building, business center, and the exhibition center. For leisure travelers, there are ancient pagodas, museums, and the Ho Chi Min Mausoleum nearby. Hotel management at the Hanoi Horison Hotel suggests limiting your travel to the official taxis which have their numbers located on the rear, encircled in blue. The Hanoi Horison Hotel has 250 elegantly appointed guestrooms with WiFi, coffee and tea service, minibars, full baths with complimentary toiletries, satellite TV, CD players, refrigerators, and room service. Amenities at the Hanoi Horison Hotel include an onsite restaurant, nightclub, bars, a casino with tables and slot machines, a fully equipped gym, spa, swimming pool with terrace and bar, game room with billiards, Jacuzzi and tennis courts. There is an ATM machine in the lobby, and banquet facilities are available as well. The lobby bar has a daily happy hour.
