Hanoi Lakes and Parks

Cock Fighting
A pair of fighting cocks "practicing" near Lenin Park.

Hanoi is a city of many lakes, most of them with surrounding parks. The most well known and perhaps the most popular is Hoan Kiem Lake near the center of old Hanoi. The largest of the city's lakes is West Lake, which naturally is just to the west of the old town. West Lake and its neighbor Truc Bach are lined with restaurants, as well as a few hotels. The two lakes are separated by just a causeway. With all the pubs and restaurants, West Lake is very popular in the evenings, as people stroll around the lakes before and after dining.

The other notable parks and lakes are Lenin Park, with Bay Mau Lake at its south end, and Thien Quang Lake, just across Tran Nhan Tong Street from Lenin Park. These are both located just four or five blocks south of Hoan Kiem Lake. Lenin Park, also known as Thong Nhat Park, is one of the largest open spaces in the city. The city's Circus Theater is located at the northwest corner of the park.
